International Women’s Day with AGH

What a fun and successful time we had celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8th! Tanzania chose the national theme of “Towards Industrialized Tanzania: Accelerate Gender Parity and Empowerment of Rural Women.” We sent representatives to three different wards, Nyatukala (Sengerema), Kandawe (Magu), and Kolomije (Misungwi), to participate in the various activities that were being held there. The events were attended by government, non-government, and community-based organizations, institutions, companies and locals interested in the event. The guest of honor in Nyatukala was Batalangile Melango Kaswahili, the Acting District Commissioner; in Kandawe Hadija Rashidi Nyembo, the District Commissioner; and in Kolomije Constancia Gabusa, the Assistant Director of Social Development. We enjoyed singing, listening to audio programs, discussions, and testimonials from successful women. We advertised our project Mtoto Mwerevu in Nyatukala by presenting a brief audio message to the crowd, followed by a discussion. The program Safe Health and Productive Community for Tanzanian Girls and Young Women was explained to the group in Kandawe. In Kolomije we were able to give an overview of the work done at AGH. Attendees truly enjoyed our presentations. In Kandawe, the District Commissioner even promised to buy some of the material made by the girls who attended the event from our Safe Health program!
